ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
This course is designed for new and experienced students who are looking to immerse or teach yoga. It is a great option for those interested in staying local to B.C this summer, craving a challenge and wanting to sink their teeth into an intense education in the art and science of yoga. It will indeed be a lovely time with in such a wonderful space.
It is my mission to make all of my programs an investment of your time and money. I promise to keep it as fun as possible while maintaining integrity, tradition and modernity – all infused with your personality. This is the ninth year I will be running the course and having graduated over 200+ teachers. A typical day will include a two-three hour morning practice (please note, select mornings will be open to the public as an immersive adventure) – hatha/vinyasa based practice, pranayama, meditation, an overview of yoga history, philosophy, Sanskrit/mantras/chanting, practice teaching, posture clinics, anatomy, subtle anatomy and much more. There are three pre-requisite readings: Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Anatomy of the Spirit. Each book interweaves with each module and will help you develop a whole new language with yoga.

The studio space is peaceful and bright with stunning mountain views, hard wood floors and plenty of candles to keep it aglow on rainy days.

Morning Intensives Option for other students: This option is for any students interested in joining any mornings during the month. You can do as few as one or all sessions. It is excellent for students who want to get stronger on the mat and want to skip the afternoon certification. Be ready for a wallop of a challenge on the mat! There is no certification linked with this option but expect a hearty practice as this is a teacher training you are dropping into. It will be a two and a half hour practice of empowered asana, pranayama, mantra/chanting and 20-30 minutes of meditation. The style of yoga is a powerful vinyasa style pulsing between static and fluid movements (influences of Ashtanga, Anusara, Kundalini and Ana Forrest). It is a challenging and fun practice with the inclusion of traditional practices, breath-work, mantra and cleansing kriyas.

The below is a brief overview for 200 hour students:
Week One: Afternoon sessions will include:
Assigned reading & discussion of: Bhagavad Gita, Jnana/Karma/Kriya Yoga, brief history of yoga, posture & beginner teaching clinics, intro to art of sequencing, whys of mantra/chanting/meditation
Week Two: Afternoon sessions will include:
Assigned reading & discussion of: Light on the Yoga Sutras, Yamas/Niyamas/Kleshas/continued posture & teaching clinics, yoga anatomy and hands on therapeutics
Week Three and Four: Afternoon Sessions will include: Assigned reading & discussion of Anatomy of the Spirit and Light on Life, subtle anatomy,chakras, nadis, vayus, koshas, continued posture & teaching clinics, final exam & practical exam for full-certification students.
CONTACT VS NON-CONTACT HOURS & BECOMING A TEACHER:
We spend around 150 hours or so together – the Yoga Alliance calls these “Contact Hours”. The remaining hours are considered “Non-Contact Hours.” For example, assigned readings, homework, practice teaching when I’m not around to supervise are considered Non-Contact. As for teaching, it’s a personal decision for many – some prefer to stay put as a student, for others it is a strong call. Either way, it’s an education you won’t regret.
There are many methods of yoga that essentially lead us all to the same place – which is why I find it difficult to label my school to one “type” of yoga. I will prepare you to teach a strong, flow, sometimes called a “power” or vinyasa style class. You can expect a great deal of attention will be paid to alignment, clarity and method during our time together. I am deeply invested in how breath work helps alter the physical and mental experience of all practitioners for the better.
EXTRAS: Gabe will fill you in on add-ons to your training experience, i.e purchasing juice cleanse kits during our week etc…There are onsite massage therapists that work out of North Yoga as well.
